We are surrounded, every day and pretty much at all times, by cameras. There are cameras on smartphones, tablets, above computer screens, embedded in walls, and on and on and on. Most of us have accepted this as just the way things are, but, if you’re overly worried about hackers, you could always install the Blink.
Spyproof
The Blink is a simple little tool, a switch designed to keep your camera from filming you without your permission. It’s basically a thick steel button: When you don’t want to be observed, slide the steel button over the camera. When you want to take selfies, slide it off.
Simple in aspect, of course, but do you even need it?
Cameras Everywhere… But Are You Really That Interesting?
Here’s the thing that catches my attention about the Blink. It’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility for a dedicated hacker to hijack your phone’s camera and spy on you that way… but, first of all, it’s a lot rarer than the movies would have you believe. Most hackers that are that dedicated are professionals more interested in your wallet or perverts looking for nude selfies on your cloud uploads. Secondly… is this really that much of a problem? Have you ever filmed yourself working at your computer? I do it all the time to test laptop cameras; trust me, it’s even less exciting than it sounds.
A Solution To A Sort Of Problem?
Yeah, I’m a little skeptical that the Blink solves anything other than assuaging the vague paranoia that floats around us in an age where suddenly everybody has a camera connected to the Internet and a desire for attention. Still, it will protect your camera lens, and if it makes you feel better, it’s $13. And hey, unlike a lot of products built off digital age paranoia, at least this works.
